Now that Vintage 2016 feels like a distant memory, its pruning time at Millbrook Winery. The vineyard team have been out and about all week cleaning up any excess on the vines to allow them to settle in for winter. Careful pruning will allow the vines to fully flourish come the spring and this in turn leads to grapes that are full of flavour.
The job isn't done yet though! Throughout the growing season, the canopy (leaves) is meticulously thinned our to ensure that all bunches of grapes receive adequate amounts of sunlight to achieve full ripeness. Bunches that aren't exposed to enough heat and light are more susceptible to disease and guaranteed to not even be picked during vintage.
