Matthew Evans Book Launch at Millbrook Restaurant
Soil: The incredible story of what keeps the earth, and us, healthy
“A love letter to Mother Earth and entertaining must-read that goes to the heart of our survival.”
– Charles Massy
“Soil is everyone's business and this book pulls no punches. It lays bare our reliance upon the intricate life beneath our feet. A must-read in every school, local library, community garden, university and for your bookshelf.”
– Costa Georgiadis
“It's a huge task to get a city girl like me who kills pot plants to read thousands of words about soil but Matthew Evans has done it. Page after page of revelation, making visible the complex and vital world beneath our feet. Reading this book is going to make you dig dirt.”
– Dr Rebecca Huntley
We would like to invite you to join us at Millbrook Restaurant on Thursday 18 August as we celebrate the launch of Matthew Evans’ latest book, Soil: The incredible story of what keeps the earth, and us, healthy.
Matthew is a former chef come food critic who has turned a passion for sustainably growing and sourcing his own food into his reality.
Previously a Sydney resident, Matthew relocated to Tasmania in 2014 where he now breeds pigs, makes cider and grows his own fruit and vegetables. His drastic change in lifestyle was documented through the popular TV series Gourmet Farmer and highlighted his success in fulfilling his goal to become self-sufficient and live off the land.
Now the author of nine books on food with a large focus on sustainability, Matthew has recently released his aptly titled new book. We are extremely excited to be hosting the Western Australia launch of his book, which details the vast and endless importance of soil in regard to the health of the planet and the human race. Highlighting this importance in his book, Matthew urgently states: “What we do to the soil, we do to ourselves.”
Matthew shares his ethos with Millbrook Executive Chef Guy Jeffreys. They both strongly believe in the importance of growing your own produce, reducing food waste and cooking with seasonal and local ingredients wherever possible.
This launch event is a celebration of their combined passions and an ode to soil and the food that comes from it.
The lunch menu will be curated by award-winning Chef Guy and will showcase ‘soil’ through fresh produce from the Millbrook estate garden, as well as local and sustainable growers.
The free-standing event will include canapés on arrival and incredible platters, with free-flowing Millbrook wine available throughout the afternoon.
