Millbrook recognised as 5 black star winery in the Halliday Wine Companion 2024
We are excited to announce that Millbrook has been recognised as a 5 Black Star rated winery in the Halliday Wine Companion 2024, which was released today.
A 5 Black Star rating typically describes an "Outstanding winery capable of producing wines of very high quality, and did so this year. Will have at least two wines rated at 95 points or above."
With only 205 other wineries given this rating, we are extremely honoured to have been recognised alongside some of Australia's best.
Alongside this winery rating, we also received some excellent reviews for our wines. The 2022 Estate Viognier was awarded 93 points:
"Wild fermented and aged on lees in oak barrels. It's a richer, softer expression with a sticky texture, lush apricot and coconut scents and flavours and a nice green apple bite of acidity to freshen. There's some detail from almond savouriness and a granitic twang to the acidity/perceived mineral characters. It's well put together, with lots of flavour, but a judicious balance of other elements."
The 2022 Regional Verdejo awarded 90 points and highly reviewed.
"A variety that offers enticing aromatics from white blossom to ginger spice as much as flavour (think stone fruit and grapefruit). This is highly savoury with some quince paste, lemon curd, a whiff of white pepper and a lick of phenolics adding a textural element. Refreshing and dry yet best with food."
Congratulations to Winemaker Emma Gillespie and Chief Viticulturist on these fantastic results.
Halliday Wine Companion 2024 Reviews
2021 Limited Release Chardonnay
94 Points
"From two vineyards, one in Ferguson Valley and the other in Pemberton. New and old oak is employed for the maturation. It's squeaky and tightly wound, pent up with green apple, grapefruit juice and kiwifruit fruit characters and dosed with lavish woody spices. It feels complex with its layers of flavour, intensity and a general sense of energy. A detailed, complex and nuanced chardonnay that's not quite ready to roll yet, but give it time."
